Motivated students who plan to pursue graduate studies have several opportunities to get a jump on grad school, even while simultaneously completing undergrad studies and/or eliminating a full year of college in some cases. Heidelberg has entered into partnerships with several area colleges and universities to create a pathway for you to accelerate the next step on your higher education journey.
This partnership with Mercy College of Ohio (Toledo) paves the way for ’Berg students to pursue their Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree at Mercy.
Here’s how it works
MCOH will guarantee direct entry into its PA program for qualifying HU students who meet MCOH’s PA Program prerequisites – a series of courses in math, psychology, health science, biology, chemistry and biochemistry. They can then be guaranteed an admissions interview with MCOH’s PA Program. Students will have to have earned a 3.5 overall GPA at Heidelberg and a 3.5 GPA in the prerequisite courses.
MCOH will guarantee three seats as direct entry into its PA program for qualifying HU students in each cohort.
Most applicable majors
-
Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry
-
Health Science majors with a Pre-Professional Health concentration will need additional prerequisite courses.
This partnership with Ohio Northern University’s Claude W. Petit College of Law provides an accelerated 3+3 pathway that allows students to complete a bachelor’s degree at HU and a Juris Doctor degree at ONU in six years, instead of the traditional seven, meeting the career needs and opportunities of students interested in the field of law.
Here’s how it works
HU students must complete a bachelor’s degree in any major and the Legal Studies minor for consideration into the ONU’s Juris Doctor program, earn 90 credit hours and meet ONU’s set GPA and admission standards. They must take the LSAT and achieve a score set by ONU’s law program of one point above the median for the ONU law class for the year of their conditional admission.
If they complete these steps in three years and are accepted into the program, their first year in law school will simultaneously count as the final year of their bachelor’s degree at Heidelberg. They would then complete their J.D. degree at ONU in two more years.
Most applicable majors
- History, English, Communication, Political Science, Criminology, Psychology
This partnership is the second between Heidelberg University and Ohio Northern University. It is designed to assist Heidelberg students who seek a PharmD degree at ONU, one of the nation’s most prestigious pharmacy schools.
Here’s how it works
Heidelberg undergrads who meet established criteria are guaranteed an admission interview for ONU’s PharmD program. Students will be required to complete 60 credit hours of prerequisite coursework in English Composition, Social Science, Communication/Speech, and Humanities, as well as required prerequisite courses in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Biology, Physics, Calculus, Statistics, and Anatomy & Physiology. Students also must maintain a 2.75 GPA in all science courses.
Candidates for ONU’s PharmD program must apply via PharmCAS (a common application system). Those who meet the above criteria will be reimbursed for the expense of the application to ONU.
Most applicable majors
- Chemistry, Biochemistry
- Biology, Health Science with careful academic planning.
This partnership with the University of Dayton School of Law (UDSL) facilitates an accelerated 3+3 pathway that allows students to complete a bachelor’s degree at Heidelberg and a Juris Doctor (J.D) degree at UDSL in six years, instead of the traditional seven, meeting the career needs and opportunities of students interested in the field of law.
Here’s how it works
Students can acquire a bachelor’s degree from HU by applying the first year of law courses at UDSL to satisfy the graduation requirements at HU and concurrently apply the first year of UDSL courses toward a J.D. degree. Students who participate in this 3+3 program complete their first three years of undergraduate study and satisfy their program electives with credits from the first year of law school at UDSL, which would count as their fourth year of undergrad studies at Heidelberg. Students can complete their J.D. degree in 33 months.
HU students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.6 by the midpoint of their junior year and achieve an LSAT score one point above the median for the UDSL law class for the year of their conditional admission.
Most applicable majors
- History, Criminology, Political Science, English, Communications, Psychology
This post-graduate affiliation agreement with Wilmington College offers preferred status to HU graduates who enter the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) at Wilmington.
Here’s how it works
Up to three Heidelberg graduates will be provided Guaranteed Early Admission if they meet the prerequisite criteria for admission into the MSOT program. Students from any undergraduate major are eligible to apply as long as they have completed the seven prerequisite courses and have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA required for admission. The program runs for six semesters over 24 months, with the first four semesters on campus and the last two semesters in the field.
Most applicable majors
- Health Sciences, Exercise Science, Biology, Psychology
Since 2011, HU and Ursuline College in Cleveland have maintained a partnership with Ursuline’s Baccalaureate Program in Nursing. This partnership offers several pathways toward completing the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program after students have completed their junior year, including an advanced placement option and an accelerated option for students who begin the nursing program after graduation from HU.
Here’s how it works
Ursuline College will allocate two seats per year for HU students who apply to either the advanced placement or the accelerated BSN program.
Most applicable majors
- Health Sciences, Biology, Exercise Science
Heidelberg students who meet the criteria are eligible for early acceptance into the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) to pursue their Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree (D.O.). Qualifying undergrads are enrolled simultaneously by Heidelberg and LECOM as participants in LECOM’s Early Acceptance Program. LECOM will interview students before their enrollment at Heidelberg or within the first two years of study for provisional acceptance into the D.O. program.
Here’s how it works
Each academic year, LECOM will accept a total of up to five Heidelberg students through the Early Acceptance Program at its Bradenton and Erie campuses. The program is comprised of two phases: Phase I is comprised of undergraduate education while at Heidelberg and Phase II is comprised of medical school education at LECOM and its associated clinical training sites.
Most applicable majors
- Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry
Heidelberg students pursuing their bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science have a direct pathway to completion of a Master of Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology through a dual enrollment partnership with Tiffin University.
To be eligible for the dual enrollment program, HU students need a minimum GPA of 3.0 and completion of 90 undergraduate credits, including equivalent courses in Math, Exercise Science, Athletic Training, Health Science, and Biology.
Here’s how it works
HU students admitted into the dual enrollment pathway may complete two fall and three spring courses, 3 credit hours each, at TU during their senior year at Heidelberg. Those courses include Behavior Change and Wellness Coaching, Exercise Biochemistry and Metabolism and Nutritional Concepts for Disease Prevention and Management. They may then matriculate into the MS in Clinical Exercise Physiology full time post-graduation from Heidelberg. HU students also have the option to matriculate full time and forgo the dual enrollment option.
